NISHIOKA PENCIL KIMONO MOTIFS 2026-2025

ここにある文様は、振袖や帯、浴衣に衣装柄など、
西岡ペンシルのオリジナルアートワーク10年分から
厳選して収録したものです。どの文様もそれ自身の
ストーリーやコンテキストを体現しています。
見えないところに形を与えて、
見えるところへ連れてくる。
つまり「現す」ことが私の仕事です。

西岡ペンシルの文様デザインは、
生物や自然が作る造形からエッセンスを抽出し
デフォルメ、そこに視覚的効果とストーリーを
加えモチーフとし、染織や織を経て存在を与え、
人に纏われることで完成するものです。

The patterns featured here are carefully
selected from Nishioka Pencil’s
original artwork over the past 10 years,
including furisode, obi, yukata, and
other costume designs. Each pattern
embodies its own story and context.
My job is to give form to the invisible
and bring it into the visible,
in other words, to “show”.

Nishioka Pencil’s pattern designs
are created by extracting the essence
of the shapes created by living things
and nature, deforming them, and adding
visual effects and stories to create
motifs. They are then given a presence
through dyeing and weaving, and are
completed when worn by people.

鳥瞰図師の祖父と、京友禅悉皆屋の家に生まれた
ルーツを持つ西岡ペンシルは、伝統的な和様の美
から受ける刺激・素養をグラフィックデザインや
アートに通じるものとして活かし、
コンテンポラリーかつ印象的なオリジナル文様を
デザイン。ブランドや企業、美術館をはじめ、
日本各地の職人・工房とコラボレーションしてきた。
文様を単なる柄や装飾と捉えるだけではなく
「時代や場に応じて複雑な意味の広がりを
投影できる優れたアートプラットフォームと
しての文様」を独自に制作する。

Art Director / Designer Nishioka Pencil
Born into a family of Kyoto kimono craftsmen,
with a grandfather who was a bird’s-eye view
artist,Nishioka has utilized the inspiration
and knowledge he receives from traditional
Japanese aesthetics as a foundation for
graphic design and art, designing contemporary
and striking original patterns and
collaborating with artisans and workshops
throughout Japan. Rather than viewing patterns
simply as designs or decorations,
he uniquely creates “patterns as an excellent
artistic platform capable of projecting
a complex range of meanings according to
the era and place.”
